The Stone Couch

Weatherly, PA

In the area near Eckley Miners' Village and Weatherly, Pennsylvania, a peculiar rock formation is known as The Stone Couch. This site is surrounded by local legends and paranormal claims.

One popular legend centers on a Native American woman who placed her infant on the rock formation, and the baby died, leading the woman to inflict a curse upon the rocks.

Another legend, especially poignant during the 1918 flu pandemic, tells of a man driving his sick wife and child to the hospital. When it became clear they wouldn't make it, he fashioned a seat from rocks – the Stone Couch – for them to rest on in their final moments. The couch has been considered cursed ever since.

The Stone Couch is believed to be a haunted site.

It's said that if you sit on the couch once, you'll experience bad luck or mysterious scratch marks will appear on your body.

Sitting on it a second time is believed to result in the death of a loved one.

The ultimate consequence, according to the legend, is that sitting on the couch a third time will lead to your own death.

Some believe the site to be a portal to the netherworld.

While these stories are popular local folklore, they remain unsubstantiated claims without definitive proof. However, they continue to contribute to the mystery and eerie atmosphere surrounding the Weatherly Stone Couch.

I live not far from these graves. I would say about ten years ago ( maybe longer), they (?) reconditioned the cages and painted them very nicely. I don't know who was involved, maybe the Scouts.
